Mental Health & ADHD Assessment Process
My mental health evaluation process is designed to be straightforward and thorough, and providing a general overview can help you know what to expect from the start.
We begin with a 90-minute intake evaluation, during which I gather a comprehensive mental health history and discuss potential treatment options and approaches. Ninety minutes allows for a more in-depth, unhurried conversation during this crucial first meeting.
If ADHD is a chief presenting concern, our second or sometimes third appointments (30 or 60-minute follow-up sessions are available) will focus on a structured ADHD assessment. This includes a standardized, evidence-based ADHD evaluation, education, and a discussion of treatment options. Depending on the length of chosen follow-up appointments, it may take 2-3 sessions to complete the ADHD assessment process. If a comprehensive ADHD evaluation has been completed previously, records may be submitted for my review; however, the necessity for further assessment will be determined at my clinical discretion.
For patients aged 35 and older—or those with relevant personal or family heart history—an EKG within the past 12 months is required, particularly if stimulants or other medications known to affect heart rhythm or prolong the QTc interval are being considered. This is typically obtained through your primary care provider. When needed, a formal letter of request can be provided pending a signed release of information.

Baseline laboratory testing is required for all patients prescribed psychiatric medications. Recent results (within the past 6–8 months) may be accepted, or new labs can be ordered by me through Quest Diagnostics or from your primary care provider, depending on your preference. We’ll review and determine the best option during your initial appointment.

Generally, for ADHD treatment, when diagnostic criteria are met and required testing is completed, medication is typically initiated between the fourth and fifth follow-up appointments. This timeline may vary depending on how quickly the ADHD assessment, labs, and EKG are completed and results returned and reviewed. While this is the standard approach, adjustments may be made based on clinical circumstances. Click here for a list of accepted insurance and cash fees.
